Business headshots do not need to look boring — especially if you are looking to grow your business on social media. I love working with small business owners to help them improve their personal brand on social media and on their website. Recently I had the pleasure of helping Kajsa Vikman.
In Kajsa's former career she was a marketing executive at Lionsgate where she developed the BeFit brand. But looking for more purpose and to have the freedom to devote more time to her family life, she decided to become a Rapid Transformational Therapist and Coach. With her background in marketing, she understands the value that quality business portraits can offer, so Kajsa contacted me to help develop her brand.
Before arriving at a shoot I like to go over all the details so that we are both on the same page and there are no surprises for either one of us. I worked with Kajsa for about a month as we planned her session. It can take anywhere between 2 days or longer to plan sessions depending on all the logistics. For Kajsa, we wanted to wait until she had her braces removed so that she would have a beautiful clean smile. And it paid off!
Within the first few weeks, I learned a little about her business, we discussed the overall look she wanted for her brand from styling, colors, locations, and the emotions we wanted to evoke. Since her brand is about helping people achieve their goals and overcoming limitations, we wanted her portraits to look warm and inviting. From there we discussed if she was interested in hiring a makeup artist and hairstylist.
After deciding on the type of makeup and hair she wanted, I recommended that she contact a wonderful makeup artist I worked with on several shoots, Sher Vasquez. Next, we went over options for her wardrobe. I sent her a few links to some outfits I thought would look nice on her from New York & Company (they always have affordable outfits for professional looks) and she sent me some items she also liked. To decide on the style we thought would work well for her overall brand, we looked at a few poses and environments from photos found on the web.
We were very fortunate to get a wonderful location for her session. Her sister's boyfriend is a real estate developer and had a wonderful property that was staged to sell. So the location was literally picture perfect! I met with Kajsa at the location a week before the shoot to look at lighting and to discuss areas where we could set up.
The following week was picture day! It took us about 3 hours to shoot 10 looks. We had just under 200 photos to select from. To help with the selection process I always remove images I do not think work well or that look like duplicates, so then Kajsa had 106 photos to make her selects from. She loved them so much that and it took a few weeks for her to make her final selections for retouching.
Overall I absolutely love how her photos came out. I'm so glad we waiting for her braces to come off. It was also so nice to have a wonderful location to shoot at. Often I have clients that just want to shoot against a plain backdrop for a lack of budget or time, but a good location brings so much more value to the overall look in portraits even if they are not the focal point.
If you are interested in discussing how I can help you to level up your personal brand, please do not hesitate to email or call me today. I do not have a set price list for these shoots as each is unique, but I will always work with you no matter that your budget it.
